This isn't ward-related, but it has become our family's service project...
Jeff has friends in Indiana whose home was totally destroyed in the recent tornado. They were across the street from the HS that was demolished. The family is staying at our friend Janie's rental home, but they lost about everything. We think their home is being bulldozed this week after groups of SWAT team members and other state troopers helped them comb through the rubble. All recovered clothes cannot be worn as the insulation and such was driven into the fibers, and from what we were told it just doesn't wash out totally.
The husband, an Indiana State Trooper, had gotten off his shift and had been recalled due to the approaching weather so he was getting ready to go to work again. He finally headed to the basement and got two steps down when the tornado hit. He ended up pinned between a tree and some A/C unit, looking up when he came to and seeing only parts of the flooring left. His wife, Liz, was at school, teaching, and their 2yr old son, Lucas, was at daycare. Neither of them were injured. He suffered some shoulder injuries and other cuts and scrapes, and his patrol car was found in someone's basement, as the note on the photo indicates.
We are gathering gently-used clothes for the mom and son, as well as toys and books, and we are shipping everything to our friend Janie so she can tidy up the items after shipment and give to this family. Liz (the mom) wears size 4 and medium shirts, and size 8 shoes. Lucas (the toddler) is in 2 and 3T and size 6-7 shoes. Apparently the dad is being taken care of as far as clothing. He wears uniforms and our friends are giving him some guy things.
Please feel free to drop off donations at our home, or call or email me

Thanks so much,
Candy
